The idea
Most setup documentation assumes one scenario: a new device, a working network, one owner, nothing complicated.
Real situations are messier. The device was a gift and still shows someone else's account. The internet provider swapped the router last Tuesday and now nothing in the house responds. You are doing this for a parent in another city and will not be in the room when it matters.
ElevaHome Hub is organized around those situations. Every page presents the circumstances people actually arrive in, and explains what is going on and what to expect in each. Find the one that matches yours and skip the rest.
What we publish
Written reference material about setting up consumer smart home devices, currently focused on Amazon's Alexa ecosystem and Echo speakers.
Each page opens with the situations it covers, so you can tell within seconds whether it is the right page. Answers run to the length the situation needs — some are three paragraphs, some are a sentence.
What we do not do
We are a publisher. That is the whole of it:
| We do not | Not even if |
|---|---|
| Answer a telephone | You find a number elsewhere claiming to be ours — we publish none |
| Staff a conversation with a person, at any hour | The request is urgent — the on-page assistant is automated and only returns links to pages here |
| Connect remotely to a device, account or network | You offer access voluntarily |
| Diagnose faults or investigate why something failed | You send screenshots or logs |
| Perform a setup, installation or configuration | You are willing to pay for it |
| Repair, service or accept hardware | The device is still under warranty |
| Recover an account or reset a password | It is your own account |
| Ask for a credential, code or card number | Somebody claiming to be us already has |
If you need someone to look at your specific device, account or network, that is the manufacturer or the retailer who sold it. We would rather say so immediately than waste your time.
Independence
ElevaHome Hub is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, authorized by, or connected to Amazon.com, Inc., its subsidiaries, or any other device manufacturer, retailer, or platform operator. We are not a reseller, agent, contractor, or authorized service provider for anyone.
Product names and trademarks mentioned across this site belong to their respective owners and are used purely to identify the products discussed.
No manufacturer pays us, reviews our pages, approves them, or influences them. There is no commercial relationship to disclose because there is not one. That independence is exactly what lets a page here say plainly that a device will not work on hotel Wi-Fi, or that a cheap adapter causes problems people mistake for network faults, or that a second-hand device may still belong to somebody else.
How we work
We build from primary sources: manufacturer specifications and published documentation, mobile platform developer documentation, and published wireless standards. Forums occasionally tell us what people are confused about, which is useful — but they do not establish facts.
Where our pages and a manufacturer's current documentation disagree, theirs is right and ours needs updating. Our sourcing rules, review schedule, correction process, and the list of things we refuse to publish are set out in the Editorial Policy.
The assistant in the corner of the page
An assistant sits on every page of this site. Because the word "chat" sets an expectation this one does not meet, it is worth stating plainly what it is.
It is an automated index of this website. Type what you are after and it points you at the pages covering it. That is its entire function.
| The assistant | |
|---|---|
| Who is behind it | Nobody. No agents, no advisers, no operators, at any hour of any day |
| What comes back | Links to pages on this site. Nothing else |
| What it cannot do | See your device, account or network; work out why something failed; carry out a setup; approach a manufacturer for you |
| What never belongs in it | Passwords, one-time codes, Wi-Fi credentials, card numbers, account details — it has no use for any of them |
| Where it comes from | An outside website tool. Its cookies and the data it handles are described in our Privacy Policy |
If it finds nothing on your question, that means the page does not exist yet. It does not mean somebody will pick the matter up afterwards, because there is nobody to pick it up.
