Situation 01Your router shows two network names that look almost identical
Something like Kapoor-Home and Kapoor-Home-5G. Same internet connection, two different radios.
What the difference is. The 2.4 GHz band travels further and passes through walls and floors more easily, but carries less data and is more crowded. The 5 GHz band carries far more data and is less congested, but fades quickly with distance and is noticeably weakened by solid walls.
Which to pick. For a speaker, the one without the 5G suffix. Echo devices are engineered around 2.4 GHz because what they need is a connection that holds up from a kitchen counter two rooms and a brick wall away — not speed. They move very little data.
If you only see one name. Some routers combine both bands under a single name and decide for themselves which one each device uses. Then there is no choice to make, which is simpler.
